Meet Katy

Hello! Nice to virtually meet you!

My name is Katy and I have been working in online spaces for almost 25 years. I have been a web developer working for companies ranging from small start-ups to massive corporations like the Kronenbourg, Warburtons, Barclays and Royal Mail.

I've also worked in retail customer service and run a couple of pubs!

I started to play the guitar at age 8 and then moved on to the violin. I later got into DJ'ing while working at a pub which sparked by interest in creating my own music which you can use for free in your own projects.

I began writing about productivity, employee morale and small business best practices back in 2002 while working for the boss from hell, and I later moved that over to the site FlippingHeck.com and since then my writing has grown to cover Politics and TV/Film Reviews. I also occasionally drop code snippets over on my blog.

FlippingHeck.com

FlippingHeck.com was set up in 2004 to pull together thoughts on small business, self-improvement, motivation and general life hacks.

The site began after Katy struggled to cope with a toxic work environment and began searching for advice on how to deal with what she was going through. To help others in a similar situation she decided to share her findings with the world on a new-fangled thing called a "blog".

Since then FlippingHeck.com has published over 3000 articles and has featured hundreds of writers on a variety of topics from how to paint your home for maximum productivity to how to motivate and reward your employees.

FlippingHeck.com is always on the lookout for new writing talent so please get in touch if you'd like to contribute to the site.

Politics

Whether you like it or loathe it politics in inescapable. A lot of people are confused by politics, especially when Mainstream and Legacy Media seemingly twist narratives to promote their own agendas. This is why Katy started Politically Inclined - an online space that tries to bring you unbiased news and explainers in easy to understand language.

Alongside this is a companion YouTube channel which takes a more irreverant look at politics, calling out politicians for their mistruths along with some comedy as well.

What Is A Tariff And How Do They Work?

What Is A Tariff And How Do They Work?

A lot of people voted for Trump based on his tariff policy. But did they understand what they were voting for? Let's take a look at what a tariff is, who pays it and the impact of increasing them

Trump has repeatedly said that he will place tariffs on to imports from countries like China in order to raise money for the US. He claims that this will enable him to reduce taxes for the "average" American and encourage home-grown production. But is that really the case? A lot of Americans seemingly voted for Trump because his tariff rhetoric struck a chord with them but unfortunately a lot of people don't seem to realise what a tariff is and the implications it will have for them and their...

Hackers

Featured Image

After snooping into a computer system they weren't supposed to access, a group of hackers uncover a plot to cause a global environmental disaster - can they stop it or will they get the blame?

Oh boy! Hackers was released in 1995 and it is certainly very much a film of its time. I'm going to try and keep this as a review of the film and not start shouting that that's not how technology works and laugh at the fact the titular hackers get excited over a modem but misspeak the speed (He's says it's 28.8 BPS modem when he should have said either it was a 28,000 BPS modem or a 28.8 KBPS modem - yes I am that sort of computer nerd). I am also going to try to stay away from the male gaze and objectification of Kate (Angelina Jolie in her first major film role) as that was very much acceptable in the 1990s/early 2000s and while it's super-obvious now it wouldn't have been an issue back when the film was released (sadly). So, putting rampant sexism and the writer's...
